Moon with a vintage Jason telescope

02/18/2024 -- With clear skies but a giant moon overhead, after some initial experiments with a Nikon Nikkor 300mm F4.5 IF ED AI-S Manual Focus Telephoto Prime, decided to get out the vintage Jason 700mm F11.6 singlet and test it out with the Panasonic Lumix GH5 attached to the business end.  Used the incredibly bad Celestron CG-3 just to hold the scope in place using the vixen dovetail on the OTA.

02/19/2024:  Repeat on a second night.  Found counterweights and other parts for the CG-3.  What an awful mount...no idea why I'd purchased such a terrible piece of equipment.  But basically as a fixed mount with a lightweight OTA and no wind...it's fine.  Skies were similar to last night...cloud free.

With counterweights and knobs on the mount, centering the moon and positioning for photos and video worked far better.  Experimented with several exposures and (for video) with VLog-L and standard color profiles.

Started a mult-session collection on 03/26 (52) and continuing on 04/15 (47), 04/16 (109) and 04/19 (~20) against Markarian's chain  with the venerable Orion ST80 using the generic dual narrow-band filter , clear Astronomik EOS clip-in filter (for consistent focusing with the EOS CLS clip-in filter) and Canon T3I (astro modded for Ha sensitivity).  180s collections used for each (except for 3/26 at 300s) and flats collected against morning blue sky when needed based on re-focusing (03/26, 04/16).  Canon configured with UTC time.  Based this collection in Kstars/Ekos/Indi by centering on  NGC 4438 . M33 / Triangulum Galaxy with the SV405cc

11/12/23 - Started collection against M33 / Triangulum galaxy with the LX10 using the 0.63 Meade focal reducer, no filter and the SV405cc. Mount has remained unmoved for a week out on the deck. Double checked polar alignment using PHD2 on the Odroid XU4 and found nominal alignment (~6") and checked focus with the Bahtinov mask. Forecast from cleardarkskies for 11/12 showing great conditions. Forecast from meteoblue also suggesting good conditions (with the exception of seeing). Bahtinov mask collection after adjusting focus on 11/12/23. Initial M33 result from AstroPixelProcessor using the first 54x120s (6360s, 1.7 hours) of collection. 11/13/23 -- set the scheduler to launch collection against M33 automatically starting at ~18:30.  This ran through one complete job (60 light frames) which lasted approximately two hours (18:36 - 20:49).  Restarted collection on an additional 60 light frames at ~22:18.  Forecast for 11/13/23 from cleardarksky suggesting cloud-free, dark skies.
