LX10 SCT Collimation Test

 11/16/2024 -- Set up the venerable Meade LX10 SCT at prime focus with the Svbony 405cc with a 1.25" UV/IR cut filter. Centered on Hamal in Ares close to zenith and used AstroDMx-Capture directly connected to the camera to capture a range of defocused star frames to examine collimation.  Results suggested no adjustment is likely needed...despite the fact that the OTA has never been collimated since I've owned it! IC 5070 / Pelican Nebula

 7/3/22 -- Great day, clear night.  Moon at 17% and setting as the evening started.  No wind, mild temps, relatively low humidity.  Tonight's target: IC 5070 (the Pelican Nebula). Started PHD2 on the Odroid XU4 with an initial drift alignment error of -200' (pre-meridian flip).  Tightened on the right side of the mount (facing the front).  First adjustment, -186'...-150'...-65'...then over-corrected... 13.5'.  Ultimately settled to -0.85'. Ultimately, Ekos/Indi collected 108x120s lights.  Covered the OTA and pointed it at the house... then started a batch script at ~4am to collect bias and dark frames during the remainder of darkness.  In the afternoon, covered the OTA with a white tee shirt and collected flat frames at 1/1000 at ISO 100 along with dark flat frames for Astro Pixel Processor. Mars at Opposition - Day 2

Goal: Capture Mars near the Oct. 13, 2020 date of closest approach (Opposition). Left tripod vibration pads in the lawn from the Mars imaging session on the 15/16th. In the early afternoon of the 17th, brought the tripod back out & set back on vibration pads in the lawn.  Mount was found to be level... no need to re-level (time & effort saved) by keeping the pads in the lawn.   Installed counterweights & the Celestron CN-10.  Rebalanced the mount... determined a working arrangement of counter weights ... and worked out optics configuration  for the CN-10 with the Zwo ASI120MC-S as the primary imaging camera with and without the 3X Barlow.   Was not able to use the M60 -> T-thread adapter with the eyepiece projection cell to the Zwo and reach infinity focus.  Instead, used the 2" eyepiece adapter -> 1.25" eyepiece adapter -> Zwo (with eyepiece adapter installed) for prime focus and inserted the Celestron X-Cel LX 3x Barlow (wit...

November Imaging Session: IC 5146, NGC 1333, NGC 2174, IC 405

11/3/23 Starting a new target: IC 5146 is a reflection/emission nebula and Caldwell object in the constellation Cygnus.  Clear dark sky forecast for 11/3 showing clear skies until around 3am with average seeing. Astronomy Seeing forecast for 11/03 from meteoblue showing the arrival of peak clouds around 2am. Given the radius of about 1 degree, using the Meade LX10 with the 0.63 focal reducer with the dual narrow band Ha/OIII filter with the new Svbony SV405cc OSC camera... with an expected low temperature of about 40 dgrees F, set the camera temperture to -5c.  After finding good focus on the Celestron 9x50 RACI finder with the ZWO ASI120MC-S, started with a rough focus on Sadulsud (Beta Aquarii) with the priimary OTA.  Then began polar drift alignment...initially way off at -1200" (ouch) (pre-meridian flip).  Tightened on the right side of the mount (facing the front).
